Slieve League Cliffs
Towering Over the Atlantic
The Slieve League Cliffs (Sliabh Liag) rise to nearly 600 metres, almost three times the height of the more famous Cliffs of Moher. Located in remote southwest Donegal, they offer a quieter, wilder alternative — with panoramic views across Donegal Bay to counties Leitrim, Sligo, and Mayo on clear days.
These cliffs have been a spiritual and cultural landmark for centuries. Pilgrims used to climb to a mountain-top chapel, and ancient stone remains are still visible today.
What to See and Do
Drive or hike to the main viewing platform at Bunglass Point. The car park is free, but a small donation is welcome. From there, take in the breathtaking views, then follow the Pilgrim’s Path or the cliff-top One Man’s Path (only for experienced walkers — it’s not for the faint of heart!).
Bring your camera — the mix of sea, sky, and rugged cliffs creates stunning contrasts in every weather.
Fun Fact
At 596 metres, Slieve League is nearly three times taller than the Eiffel Tower.
Local Insight
Stop at the viewing point just before the top — it’s less crowded, and locals say the angle is even better for photographs.
Travel Tips
Arrive early or off-season for peaceful views. Dress for wind — even on calm days, the breeze can be wild.
There's a small café and visitor centre nearby in Teelin village.
