A hidden botanical world

Mount Congreve is one of those places where you can wander quietly beneath towering trees, with nothing but birdsong and the sound of your own footsteps.

Whatever season you visit, something is always in bloom. From deep pink rhododendrons in spring to rich autumn colours along the woodland paths.

And just when you’re ready for a break, the smell of fresh scones and warm coffee draws you towards the Stables Café. Perfect for a lunch with local produce as well.

This is the kind of place where you slow down, breathe, and take your time.

The Mount Congreve story

Mount Congreve isn’t just a garden, it’s the life’s work of Ambrose Congreve.

From the 1950s onwards he began shaping these gardens, driven by a deep love for plants and landscape. Over decades he worked with horticulturist Herman Dool to transform the estate into one of the world’s great private plant collections.

Today the estate is cared for by a passionate team led by Raymond, who continue that same spirit. Keeping the gardens alive for visitors who come to wander, slow down and enjoy nature.

Across 70 acres of woodland gardens and a four-acre walled garden, more than 3,000 species of trees, shrubs and plants grow here, each carefully chosen as part of Congreve’s vision.

Every season reveals something different — from spectacular rhododendrons in spring to rich autumn colours along the woodland paths.
