The walking route takes you past many picturesque villages, ancient castles, and traditional farms. You'll follow old winding roads and discover lakes, rivers, and streams. This self-guided walking holiday ends in the lively town of Killarney, where you can enjoy excellent restaurants and traditional pubs!
Killarney (1 days)
Nestled in the heart of County Kerry, Killarney is a charming town renowned for its breathtaking landscapes, rich history, and vibrant culture. Whether you're seeking outdoor adventures, historical exploration, or a taste of traditional Irish life, Killarney offers an unforgettable experience.
On the first day of this hiking trip, you’ll arrive in Dublin (or Cork), where you take the bus or train to your first accommodation in Killarney. This cozy town is surrounded by mountains and the beautiful Three Lakes of Killarney. Enjoy the lively atmosphere with excellent restaurants, traditional pubs, charming shops, as well as the impressive cathedral, Ross Castle, and Muckross House. It’s the perfect place to start your walking holiday along the Ring of Kerry!
Gap of Dunloe (1 days)
Tucked between the rugged peaks of County Kerry, the Gap of Dunloe is a breathtaking glacial valley that offers visitors a step back into Ireland's ancient landscape. This narrow mountain pass, carved during the last Ice Age, is a must-see for nature lovers, hikers, and anyone seeking the soul of the Irish countryside.
You start your walk (good hiking boots are a must) from your accommodation towards the beautiful Muckross House & Gardens – about 5 km outside Killarney. From here, you follow the Kerry Way through Killarney National Park and the Esknamucky Glen, past the Torc Waterfall, to reach an old “mass path” at the church of Derrycunnihy.
The trail leads you around the shores of the Upper Lake of Killarney as you continue toward Lord Brandon’s Cottage and into the heart of the Black Valley, where you’ll spend your second night.

Glencar (1 days)
Tucked away in the heart of County Kerry, Glencar is a serene haven for travelers seeking Ireland's untouched beauty. With its rolling hills, tranquil lakes, and rich cultural tapestry, this quaint village offers an authentic Irish experience away from the bustling tourist trails.
From the Black Valley, you follow the Kerry Way along a stunning lake deeper into An Com Dubh (Black Valley in Irish), over a mountain saddle, and descend into the Bridia Valley.
From there, you climb along a spectacular old farm path to the foothills of the MacGillycuddy Reeks, Ireland’s highest mountain range, and descend along the shores of Lough Acosse to end your day in the hamlet of Glencar. The third overnight stay is in Glencar.

Glenbeigh (1 days)
Tucked between the mountains and the sea on the Iveragh Peninsula, Glenbeigh is a picturesque village offering a perfect blend of natural beauty, rich history, and warm Irish hospitality. It's an ideal stop for those exploring the Ring of Kerry or seeking a tranquil coastal retreat.
A fantastic walk today takes you over the beautiful Blackstone’s Bridge, along the Caragh River and valley, then around the “shoulder” of Seefin Mountain, descending into the picturesque village of Glenbeigh.
The view over Castlemaine Harbour and westward over Dingle Bay must be seen to be appreciated. Glenbeigh, once a thriving coach stop, is a village full of character. Rossbeigh Beach, 2 km further west, is worth a visit. This beach is a long sandy spit with dunes and holds Blue Flag status – excellent for a variety of watersports.

Hiking in Ireland… now you know what it’s like! Today, after a hearty breakfast, your 5-day hiking holiday in Ireland comes to an end and it’s time to head home. You’ll travel back to Dublin or Cork for your flight.
There is a public bus service from Glenbeigh to Killarney, where you can connect to excellent train and bus links to the airport. (Note: the bus from Glenbeigh departs at 08:05 or 12:20 and takes 50 minutes to reach Killarney. It does not run on public holidays and Sundays. Prefer a private transfer? Ask us about the options).
